Justus
Cox

biography

Justus Cox has served as a teacher and a school administrator and is currently the Executive Director of Young Brothers Academy. He is invested in planting seeds of hope and inspiration in our youth and the adults who lead them, igniting a spark in their lives that will spread into their homes, schools, and communities. 

 

He is a man of faith, family, and community. Justus is the husband of Brittney Cox and the father of their beautiful daughters, Miss Tylar Renee Cox and Miss Ryan Denise Cox.

 

Young Brothers Academy, a mentoring organization in Greenville, SC. Young Brothers Academy works with young men in middle and high school, with a focus on education, empowerment, and exposure. Justus is also a member of the Call Me MISTER program, a program to help increase the pool of available teachers from a broader more diverse background, particularly among the lowest-performing elementary schools. In 2018, Justus was blessed with the opportunity to spend a month in Ghana, West Africa on a Fulbright Hays Scholarship studying the connection between Ghanaian and African American history, culture, and language.

In 2013, Justus was awarded the Roy Jones Director award for his hard work, dedication, and service during an internship with the Call Me MISTER program. In 2016, he was awarded the Upstate Diversity Leadership Award for "Outstanding College Student", by the Riley Institute. Justus was awarded The Emerging Leader Community Award from the Anderson County United Way African American Leadership Society. In 2016, Justus was recognized as one of Anderson’s Independent Mail 20 under 40. In 2018, Justus was recognized as The Block’s “Black History Maker” for February. In 2024, Justus was awarded the Henrietta Sullivan Mentoring Excellence Award and was recognized as Greenville’s Best and Brightest 35 and Under.

 

“I'm very passionate about education, not only in the classroom but from a global perspective as well. I truly believe that education is the key to discontinuing the many cycles that plague our families, communities, and our educational system.” Justus' plans for the future are to surpass the norm in education and to take it as far as it can go. “I don’t know what that’s going to look like ten years from now, but I am open and willing to let God lead the way.”
